Setting up the development environment


For a painless development cycle, we need to use the best tools and libraries available. This section describes the setting up of the development environment. The primary requirement is that Node.js is installed on your computer. We have already discussed Node.js and npm in the previous chapter so I assume that you have already installed Node.js and Electron in your machine.

Kickstart the application development by creating the directory structure discussed in above section. We have already initialized Node.js project inside the current directory using npm, and Electron is installed. Refer to the previous chapter to get more details about these steps.

Install Electron into the project by using the npm install --save electron command. This will create the node_modules folder automatically in your project. 

Once the application skeleton is ready, open the package.json manifest file from the root of the project. The content should look like following:
