It will guide you on how to build desktop applications that run on Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms.

You will begin your journey with an overview of Electron, and then move on to explore the various stages of creating a simple social media application. Along the way, you will learn how to use advanced Electron APIs, debug an Electron application, and make performance improvements using the Chrome developer tools. You’ll also find out how to package and distribute an application, and more.

By the end of the book, you will be able to build a complete desktop application using Electron and web technologies. Chapter 8. Exploring Electron API - 2

The last chapter was about the details of the Electron API. We have gone through how we can utilize the API to manage both the main and renderer processes. Unlike other hybrid frameworks, the Electron provides deep access to the native shell using its API. We will continue exploring the Electron API in this chapter. Like in the preceding chapter, we will check the API details with some of the real-world usage examples. The following points will be discussed in this chapter:

 • Managing the browser window content using web content API
 • Embedding the external content using web view
 • The extended Node.js process object
 • Managing the rendered page
 • WebFrames

You won't use most of these techniques in a simple Electron application. However, for a complex and large-sized application, you should be having full control over the Electron shell and the rendered web page. Also, you will have to access the operating system components through these APIs.
