To get the most out of this book

Most of the approaches and techniques described in this book are less tool-specific and more person-specific. There are, however, a few examples in the book that will benefit from downloading software or hardware and installing them. Most of the tools and techniques are platform agnostic or have distributions that work with all platforms. Some of the examples in this book are based on Ruby, so having a working version of Ruby on your system would be beneficial. In the Specialized Testing section there is an example based around JMeter, so installing JMeter and its components would likewise be worthwhile.
