There are some important points to be aware of with external data. I'll list the main ones briefly here for quick reference:
- The recommendations engine does not operate on external data, so you'll need to build all your visualizations manually.
- You cannot send external data to a data function—it is far better to use data on demand and use that as a data source for a data function.
- Filters are not created by default—you can create them on individual columns by clicking on the filter icon on a column in the data panel and creating the filter.
- If you are using a table plot to show external data, you MUST define a primary key on the data table. This is because Spotfire needs to have a unique identifier on the data in order to be able to identify the rows in the data source.
