Automating tasks using Automation Services

Automation Services is a very useful tool to automate certain Spotfire tasks. You can think of Automation Services as a special headless Spotfire client that runs on a server. Spotfire has a scheduler built in to the administration console as of Version 10.

Some great things you can do with Automation Services include the following:

  • Load the latest data from an information link or file in the library—in this way, the Spotfire file becomes a cache for data and can store the data without having to query the external data source every time it is opened. This can also be achieved (in a different way) by using scheduling and routing.
  • Export images or PDF files.
  • Send emails to users containing visualizations, a copy of the analysis, link to the file on the web, PDF files, and so on.
  • And much more...
