Other calculations in Spotfire

The expression language in Spotfire is extremely powerful, but again, it's beyond the scope of this book to document each and every one of the functions and how to use them. However, I'd like to add a few hints and tips here:

  • The rich expression editor in Spotfire is great for building custom expressions. It performs auto-complete and inline syntax editing, for example. It also contains context-sensitive help on each of the functions.
  • In addition to the built-in functions, you can extend the palette of calculations by using TIBCO Enterprise Runtime for R (TERR) aggregations, TERR expressions, and TERR custom calculation methods.
  • Be careful when creating expressions with document properties (and other types of properties). If you choose a property from the list of document properties, Spotfire will insert a default syntax into the expression...
