If you have been following along with some recipes and experimenting to find the best options for you, then you might have some advantage of starting again from scratch. But having said that you might not want to go through the process of reinstalling Joomla! and reconfiguring what you have already done there.
I often end up doing this when I have a client who wants something a bit different that I haven't done before. I hack around getting stuff to work and finding the right solutions. Once I know and have documented exactly how to do something, I then reset VirtueMart so that I can implement things from a clean start.
