ServiceNow: Building Powerful Workflows

By: Tim Woodruff, Martin Wood, Ashish Rudra Srivastava

Overview of this book

ServiceNow is a SaaS application that provides workflow form-based applications. It is an ideal platform for creating enterprise-level applications, giving requesters and fulfillers improved visibility and access to a process. ServiceNow-based applications often replace email by providing a better way to get work done. This course will show you how to put important ServiceNow features to work in the real world. We will introduce key concepts and examples on managing and automating IT services, and help you build a solid foundation towards this new approach. You will then learn more about the power of tasks, events, and notifications. We’ll then focus on using web services and other mechanisms to integrate ServiceNow with other systems. Further on, you’ll learn how to secure applications and data, and understand how ServiceNow performs logging and error reporting. At the end of this course, you will acquire immediately applicable skills to rectify everyday problems encountered on the ServiceNow platform. The course provides you with highly practical content explaining ServiceNow from the following Packt books: 1. Learning ServiceNow 2. ServiceNow Cookbook 3. Mastering ServiceNow, Second Edition

UI15 versus UI16

UI15 and UI16 are versions of the overall user interface, not too dissimilar from what we saw in earlier chapters with List v2 and List v3. UI16 is the latest version, and was introduced with the Geneva release of ServiceNow.

By the time you're reading this book, it's likely that the vast majority of ServiceNow customers will be using UI16 exclusively. For this reason, UI16 is what we're going to focus on in this book. However, since UI15 is not absent from even Helsinki, and since not everyone is going to be on the latest version of the UI, let's discuss some differences you'll notice between UI15 and UI16, so that you can still follow along even if you're on Fuji or earlier.

Switching between UI15 and UI16

In a new Geneva or Helsinki instance, the UI16 plugin is automatically active. If you want to switch between UI15 and UI16, click on System Settings

, and you'll see a button that says Switch to UI15 (or Switch to UI16 if you're already in UI15):
