Creating clothing and soft furnishing mock-ups

As we have already seen in this chapter, applying designs to flat or even curved regular surfaces presents numerous challenges. When it comes to applying designs to fabric with irregular surfaces, this presents numerous challenges. Firstly, how can we match our designs to the curved, rippled, or distorted surface of the fabric? But most importantly, how can we do this without committing to abortive work when we need to change or update a design? In the following exercises, we will master both.

Applying original designs to a T-shirt

In this section, you will import original designs onto a photo of a T-shirt using displacement maps that match the fabric:
