AA: Something I’ve had discussions with people recently about is the high failure rates of AI projects and data science projects. 85 percent is the number being thrown around.
We’re drowning in data. It’s easy to get a data scientist to use R and Python and to set up a simple infrastructure. Why are the failure rates so high then?
CM: Well, because data science is not commoditized the way they want it to be.
The IT industry used to be an actual profession. You would go into it with skills and you could do things. After 20 years, the IT industry has been completely commoditized. It’s outsourced to other countries. You can hire specialists in different areas. Project managers know how to map things out. It’s totally commoditized and optimized.
