Ethical and responsible AI
The use of AI will play an increasing role in shaping society and the way we live and work – and AI technology brings with it considerable risk. The scale at which AI can operate is fundamentally different to the scale at which most individual humans can influence. For a simple example of this principle, consider the scale of decisions that an individual hiring manager can make (decisions that are inevitably influenced by the biases of the hiring manager), compared to the scale of decisions that an AI candidate selection tool can make (also inevitably influenced by biases). The collection and use of data within AI systems also presents risks and ethical questions.
A Google search will quickly reveal that it is currently difficult to even arrive at a meaningful description of what ethical and responsible AI seeks to achieve. Somewhat ironically, ChatGPT provides a solid attempt, stating that it seeks to protect the rights and interests of individuals...
