Discussing data leadership
AA: What makes a good data leader, and how do you gain traction and buy-in from fellow executives?
MM: There are three things that I’ve learned are critical to get right:
- Curiosity: Every day, especially as leaders, we make decisions based on the information that is presented to us. And the decisions we make are only as good as the information we have at our fingertips. Our decisions won’t ever improve or evolve with the environment we operate in if don’t explore what data we have and what insights or possibilities we can get from the data we have or do not have. We need to enquire about the value, security, and quality of the data we do have! Exploring the art of the possible with data is critical to ensure that decision-making is optimized and an organization evolves with the changing environment around it.
