Predicting the future of AI
It’s fair to say there was a range of views on the future direction of AI from our interviewees. Different interviewees, reflecting their different research backgrounds, are putting their money on different technologies for leading us to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Nikolaj believes hybrid approaches, such as the combination of ML and OR will be successful, while Jon sees neuro-symbolic AI being the focus of the action in the next couple of decades. Petar believes that if you truly want to mimic what a general intelligence system does, you need to do reasoning over some kind of graph structure.
Petar’s prediction is that we may achieve AGI within our lifetimes. He believes that in the not-so-distant future – even in the next decade – we could have the first working example of something that might convince broad groups of people that AGI is coming.
