Chapter 4. Making Noise

In the previous chapter, we finished making our game playable and challenging. However, we have no easy way to give feedback to the player. This is where sounds and music save the day.

In this chapter, we shall:

  • Learn how to add looping music to our game

  • Learn how the Mod plugin works and why it is useful

  • Use sounds to make our game more immersive

  • Learn how to export our game to share with friends

So let's get on with it.

A game and its music

A game can be made more interesting or emotional through music. It can have specially made music (such as the original Mario Bros theme song), or even introduce a music piece to a wider audience (such as the song used in Tetris).

Music is described as looping when it repeats constantly. Looped music is great for games as it always plays continuously, regardless of how long the player takes to beat a level.
