Preface

Chapter 8. I'm Throwing a Grenade!

In the last chapter, we learned how to create our first multiplayer 2D platform shooter game. We're ready to learn one of the final parts of making games with Construct Classic — the special effects.

In this chapter, we will:

  • Learn how to create an exploding, bouncing grenade object in our game

  • Learn how to use effects to distort the screen when the grenade explodes

  • Learn how to fire our enemies away from a grenade blast

So let's get on with it.

Grenades — bouncing, timed explosives

Our players may need a helping hand when they're trying to fight the enemy robots. To do so, we'll be adding in the secondary weapon of grenades, which they'll be given at the start of each level and can be thrown by pressing their Jump and Shoot keys at the same time.
