Chapter 8. Creating Landscapes

Many of your adventures have taken you through gloomy dungeons, endless warehouses, and claustrophobic space ship corridors. You stumbled through dark hallways wondering whether you would ever see the light of day again. It's nice to be a fearless hero and all, but can the whole world-saving business not happen outdoors just once in a while? It can!

Maybe what your game needs is a meandering landscape under an awesome sky. Flood the scene with a good dose of sunlight (or moonlight) or shroud it in mysterious fog. Decorate it with trees and bushes and throw in a body of water for good measure. And off you go, this time across the rock-strewn desert, through wild jungles, into the overgrown city ruins.

In this chapter, you learn how to create a landscape with:

  • Terrains and trees

  • Sky and sunlight

  • Fog and water
