Prerequisites and expectations

The goal of this chapter is designed to allow absolute beginners to start to gain confidence creating and using Affinity Designer's shapes and tools to create something that's a little bit more like a real-world project. We will be getting familiar with the tools again while creating our logo using basic and custom shapes. We'll create additional linework using the Pen tool and spend some time working with, and manipulating, text.

Note

Although you are welcome to create any logo you want from your own sketch or another reference, for the sake of the exercise here, we will be creating a particular line style for this logo that may or may not work with the example you have.

We will be placing the hand-drawn logo sketch I created (shown in Figure 11.2) into Affinity Designer as a guide or blueprint and will reference it as we create the logo in a step-by-step format:
