Chapter 12: Creating Astronaut Ricky and Sidekick K9

Welcome to the twelfth chapter of Up and Running with Affinity Designer. In this second exercise chapter, we will build on what we learned in the previous chapter and cover some more advanced illustration techniques. The finished illustration project should look something like the example in Figure 12.1 and carries on with the Ricky and K9 Rover theme from the previous chapter's logo project.

As you can see, this final illustration is very different from the previous exercise. In this illustration, we'll be taking the finished look much further than the simpler linework of the logo. With this illustration, we are trying to create a sort of stylized or idealized realism with dimensional form, color, highlights, and shadows. Fortunately, Affinity Designer has the tools and features to make this not only possible but a whole lot of fun.
