Selecting and downloading a character from Mixamo

For some years now, Adobe has been offering a free, powerful web application for animating characters called Mixamo. This web application provides a range of free, ready-made characters and also allows you to upload your own characters. It also allows you to choose from 100s of free animation clips. You can export just an animation clip or a combined character model and an animation clip, and one of the export options is for Unity!

In this recipe, we’ll select a character and export it as an FBX asset file suitable for use in Unity. This recipe, plus the following two recipes, together allow you to create an animated NPC character in a Unity project from Mixamo resources.

Getting ready

This recipe uses the free Adobe Mixamo web application, so you’ll need to sign up for an account with them if you don’t have one already.
