Overview of this book

Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) allows you to use multiple channels and tools to create a 1:1 marketing experience for your customers and subscribers. Through automation and helper tasks, you can greatly increase your productivity while also reducing the level of effort required in terms of volume and frequency. Automating Salesforce Marketing Cloud starts by discussing what automation is generally and then progresses to what automation is in SFMC. After that, you’ll focus on how to perform automation inside of SFMC all the way to fully running processes and capabilities from an external service. Script activities (SSJS and AMPscript)

Inside of Automation Studio, under Activities, you will find the most wonderful activity named Script activity. Now, what makes this so wonderful? Well, it opens the door to do things beyond what you can do in the user interface (UI) and allows you to build a scheduled script that can be run with a 30-minute time-out. OK—cool, but what exactly is it?

A Script activity in Marketing Cloud is an activity that lets you write a script utilizing SSJS inside of a stored object, the Script activity itself, that you can then execute within automation. You can run this as a part of automation or as the whole automation itself, as well as utilize it as both automation types: Scheduled or File Drop.
