Advanced configuration for Hyper-V networking


When it comes to Enterprise, customers have some requirements for their environment. High Availability, Performance, and Security are examples of the features that customers are looking for, and which Hyper-V is able to deliver on Windows Server 2012 R2. From now on in this chapter, we will see how to evolve the concepts that you learned so far.

The first thing that will be covered is the design of the host networking. It is important because it will affect the design for VM networking. For example, when you're acquiring the hardware for your host server, firstly you have to plan with your vendor how many NICs the host will have. If you acquire a host with only one NIC, you'll be able to connect both—the host and the VMs to the network. The problem is that both—the host and the VMs may have different types of traffic and each traffic has its own requirement for bandwidth.
