Summary

Using a management tool to perform day-to-day tasks is important as these tools usually facilitate our job. Understanding how these tools work and how to perform these tasks without these tools, on the other hand, will differentiate you from others in the market.

In this chapter, you were able to understand how the process for creating a VM works, how to customize it, and how to modify the VM settings. You can now differentiate between a Generation 1 and 2 VM and are familiar with the specifications of each option.

You saw how to use Checkpoints and how they works in the background, as well as the implications of the Checkpoint on the applications and databases in the VM.

You can now create a VM template using the native tools on Windows Server and Hyper-V, such as Sysprep, differencing disks, and PowerShell DSC.

In the next chapter, we will go through an important topic, which is High Availability to provide failover capabilities for important VMs in Hyper-V.
