Summary


In this chapter, we covered multiple options for planning and implementing a storage solution for Hyper-V. We covered host storage using local disks, DAS and SAN devices, with FC and iSCSI communication. We also covered NAS with SMB3 and how a Windows Server host can be a Storage Device implementing several storage features, such as Storage Spaces and Pool, Data Deduplication and Storage Tiering. The disk configuration and RAID options were covered with details and indications for a virtualization environment.

Then, we came to the VM storage and all the possibilities for using physical or virtual disks. Now you know the difference between the virtual disk formats, and how to configure the VM storage correctly. Throughout the chapter, you might have noted that we did not cover Shared VHDX. This is because this topic will be covered in Chapter 7, Implementing High Availability, along with other High Availability options.
