Managing Failover Clustering

In this chapter, we will continue with the failover clustering theme and build out our experience to include how to configure components, such as cluster-aware updating, how to recover failed cluster nodes, and how to upgrade existing cluster nodes to a newer Windows Server version (Windows Server 2022, in this example set). Finally, we will learn how to manage failover clusters by utilizing Windows Admin Center.

This chapter will include exercises on how to manage Windows Server Failover Cluster (WSFC) components and workloads on-premises, with hybrid components and services, and in the cloud consistent with the AZ-801 exam objectives.

In this chapter, we will cover the following topics:

  • Technical requirements and lab setup
  • Managing failover clusters using Windows Admin Center
  • Implementing cluster-aware updating
  • Installing Windows updates on cluster nodes
  • Recovering a failed cluster node
  • Upgrading a node to Windows Server...
