Troubleshooting VM performance issues

We covered how to troubleshoot VM performance issues in Chapter 18, Monitoring Windows Server Using Windows Server Tools and Azure Services, in the Monitoring Azure VM performance using VM Insights section.

However, there is yet another diagnostics tool available within the Help section of an individual Windows or Linux VM called Performance diagnostics. This tool installs a VM extension named PerfInsights on the VM.

The following steps will help you set up the tool and run Performance diagnostics:

  1. Select our vm-az801-svr1 virtual machine from within the Azure portal.
  2. Navigate to the Help section of the VM, and then select Performance diagnostics.
  3. You have the option of changing the Settings properties, where you can change the storage account. For this exercise, we will keep the default settings, so select the Install performance diagnostics button, as shown in Figure 20.9:
