Introduction to Hyper-V Replica

For some time now, Hyper-V has provided built-in tools to complete VM replication from one Hyper-V host to another host. Under the hood, Hyper-V Replica creates a copy of a live/running VM to a replica offline VM on another host server to have yet another way to keep your workloads available in the event of a disaster.

While Hyper-V Replica tends to be more frequently configured on Hyper-V servers that are joined to an Active Directory domain and inside of a Hyper-V cluster, it is entirely possible to configure Hyper-V replication for servers that are running in a workgroup. The Hyper-V hosts have no restrictions between the servers – they can be part of a cluster, standalone, or a mix of both.
