Performing a VM failover

Now that we have completed a review of managing Hyper-V Replica servers, let’s cover the final topic of this chapter by learning about failover options for our replicated VM:

  1. First, we ensure that the VM has been shut down/stopped on the primary Hyper-V replica host before proceeding.
  2. From the secondary replica host, we can select the replicated VM, and by selecting the Replication menu, we can see all available options for failover, as shown in Figure 12.14. Here, we will select the Test Failover… option to continue:

  1. On the Test Failover screen, we have the option of choosing any of the recovery points, including the latest recovery point, any planned failover recovery points, and any standard recovery points (or snapshots), as shown in Figure 12.15. We will select the Planned Failover Recovery Point option...
