Image tagging and OCR

Image tagging generates descriptive keywords to the special site column called Image Tags. The Image Tags column is a managed metadata column, and it also supports managing image tags manually. Image tagging uses AI to detect images, and it may take from five minutes to 24 hours to automatically tag the images. Image tagging is only supported for newly added images after the feature is activated in a document library.

OCR extracts printed or handwritten text from images and PDF documents. The text is extracted as words, text lines, and paragraphs. Currently supported image types are JPG, JPEG, PNG, BMP, and TIFF, and OCR supports over 150 languages. Added images are analyzed automatically after OCR is activated. The extracted text is added to the Extracted Text site column.
