Setting up the development environment

Setting up the development environment starts by installing the client-side development tooling:

  1. The first step is to install Node.js. The installation package can be downloaded from the Node.js website (https://nodejs.org) or installed using common package managers, such as Winget on Windows or with Homebrew on macOS.

Important note

Always refer to Microsoft’s documentation about the SharePoint Framework development environment to see which Node.js version is supported by SharePoint Framework. Sometimes, the latest long-term support (LTS) version is not yet supported by it.

Also, if you are continuing the development of a solution created earlier or using an example provided by the developer community, refer to the documentation to see which Node.js version is supported with the solution’s SPFx version.
