Managing page templates

Page templates are useful for guiding content authors to use certain section layouts, web parts, and content elements on new pages to ensure a uniform look and feel. A page template can be created from any of the content pages or by creating a new page. The page is saved as a template by selecting Save as template from the page toolbar:

All sections, web parts, and metadata in page details will be copied to the new template. All sections and web parts are available for page templates. It’s also a clever idea to create a guidance text element for the template to advise content authors on how the template is used. If the template contains more than one text web part, it is also a good idea to include a short intro text for all text elements to make them easier to find on the page:
