Working with primitives


Cinema 4D comes equipped with a series of 3D shapes to use as common starting points for your 3D models. They are called Primitives and they are what we call Parametric objects , meaning that they are generated by mathematical formulas with unique values to determine what they look like. These shapes can be adjusted and combined to form very simple models. In this recipe, we are going to create a stool out of two common primitives: the cube and the cylinder.

How to do it...

  1. The Primitives are located inside the icon with the blue cube on it inside the Command Palette. If you click and hold down on the icon, you'll see all of the available shapes—everything from the common Sphere to the man-like Figure object. You'll probably use the Cube, Cylinder, and Sphere the most because those are some of the most common shapes, but it's important to take an inventory of all these menus to see what's available for creating future models:
