There's a good chance you picked a historical photograph from a famous or notable event. It's also likely you picked a photo that occurred at some point in time and somewhere in the world where you were not present. If you weren't there to see the event, how come you instantly recall the image ahead of everything else that resides in your head?
We've been photographing scenes and subjects since the 1800s; the goal to using any kind of camera to capture any kind of image is still the same—to capture a composition of what the lens is pointed at in a particular way. When you look at the pictures, videos, or films, you are experiencing the image through the eyes of the person who captured it, and the particular way they wanted it to be seen and interpreted.
