Applying Subsurface Scattering

Cinema 4D R14 features better upgraded results with Subsurface Scattering. This effect is used to create slightly transparent materials that can both scatter and absorb light across the object that it is applied to. It allows light to pass through certain parts of the object, the thinner areas, to give the effect that the material isn't 100% opaque. This effect will help create a variety of realistic-looking materials. We are going to use Subsurface Scattering to create two materials: porcelain for some bathroom fixtures and wax for some candles.

Getting ready

Our bathroom is about to be finished. Use the Bathroom.c4d file for this last recipe in the chapter.

How to do it...

  1. Let's start by creating a porcelain material to use for our sink and toilet fixtures first. Double-click on an empty spot in the Material Manager and make a new material and name it Porcelain. Under the Color channel, change the R, G, and B color values to 250 each, so they are almost pure...
