Opening and closing a door is also a very difficult movement to animate manually. There are many factors involved in this type of movement that, without the use of AML, would take far longer to accomplish, so we will let the AML do the work for us.
Like any door there are two sides to the door, as listed on the Operate command menu shown in the following image. We will quickly learn when have chosen the wrong side if our character walks through the door then turns around to open it:
Note
Use the Undo function, reset the timeline scrubber to the appropriate time, and choose a different open command.
1. Create a new blank scene.
2. Load the Door iProp into the scene.
3. Load the Dylan character into the scene.
4. Position the Dylan character away from but in front of the door as shown in the following image:
6. Select the Door iProp and choose Open Door from Bedroom to match the side of the door we will be opening.
7. Preview the animation to see the character walk to and open the door.
The following image demonstrates the Dylan character's movement to and opening of the door:
We used the built-in AML script for the door iProp to manipulate the Dylan character into walking over and opening the door. All with a few simple clicks of the mouse button!
The beer iProp we worked with earlier during our main project and the Stein, Remote Control, and Apple (shown in the following image) work in the same manner:
The TV is a bit different from the other iProps, in that it does not interact with a character. Instead, it allows you to load several videos and has an off feature that allows us to turn on the TV, move through channels, and turn it off.
